On the morning of December 31, 2020, Professor Shao Zhenfeng from the State Key Laboratory of Information Engineering in Surveying, Mapping and Remote Sensing of Wuhan University gave an online special report entitled Digital City --- Smart City --- Sponge City at the invitation of Professor Ge Ying from the Department of Surveying and Mapping Science and Engineering. This report was presided over by Professor Ge Ying from the Department of Surveying and Mapping Science and Engineering. More than 100 teachers and students from our school participated in the online academic report.

The report focuses on the development of digital cities to smart cities and then to sponge cities, expounding the concepts of the three and related supporting technologies. Based on the infrastructure of digital cities, smart cities, and sponge cities, it focuses on the important role of surveying, mapping and remote sensing in the Internet of Things, cloud computing, big data, and data mining. Through an in-depth analysis of China’s driving forces and goals for the construction of smart cities and sponge cities, taking abundant practical cases and scientific research results as examples, focusing on the cutting-edge development of the subject of surveying, mapping and remote sensing in the field of urban construction, online teachers and students have benefited a lot.
