On October 22, 2018, Professor Zhang Yuanming, from Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography, Chinese Academy of Sciences, gave a presentation on “How desert vegetation completes organic carbon fixation in extreme environments: processes and mechanisms” at Room 107 in Du Xue Building. Their research work discovered the “switching effect” of carbon exchange at the geo-atmosphere interface of desert ecosystems, and innovatively proposed a new understanding of underground organic carbon storage and vegetation carbon storage in desert areas.
