On the afternoon of November 27th, at the invitation of Associate Professor Lina He of the School of Earth Sciences and Engineering, Dr. Kejie Chen from Southern University of Science and Technology visited our school, made an academic report of “Monitoring the Restless Earth: GNSS to Enhance Seismic-hazard Early Warning, Fast Response and Forecast”, at the academic lecture hall 107, many teachers and students from the school attended the lecture.

Dr. Chen mainly introduced the application of high-rate real-time GNSS technology in high-precision coseismic deformation acquisition, fast inversion of earthquake rupture process, tsunami/earthquake warning, and long-term GNSS time series in earthquake disaster risk estimation. He combined with examples to focus on the combination of high-rate GNSS data and strong seismometer data to determine the source parameters and to invert the rupture model, quickly determination of the intensity and time of the tsunami, and the evaluation of tsunami disaster. He summarized the future development trend of tsunami warning work, and it is necessary to further analyze the relationship between the tsunami formation mechanism and the fault rupture model.

In the discussion session after the lecture, Dr. Chen had a warmly academic exchange with the teachers and students present on the related hotspot-forefront topic in geodesy, seismology and tsunami warning research.
