Invited by the department of Surveying Science and Engineering, School of Earth Sciences and Engineering, Dr Roderik Lindenbergh visited our school from Sep.19 to Sep.26 2017. Dr. Roderik Lindenbergh obtained his PhD on a thesis entitled “Limits of Voronoi Diagrams” in 2002. Starting from 2002, he is working at what is currently called the Dept. Geoscience and Remote Sensing of Delft University of Technology, first as a Postdoc in the section of Mathematical Geodesy and Positioning, and, after 2005 as Assistant Professor in the section of Optical and Laser Remote Sensing. His main research interests are properties, processing and applications of laser scan point clouds, ICES at laser altimetry and interpolation techniques. Dr.Roderik Lindenbergh now is 2016-2020 chair of ISPRS WG II/10 on 3D mapping for environmental and infrastructural monitoring. He was the chair of Laser Scanning workshop 2017 at the ISPRS Geospatial Week, China.

On Sep. 20, he visited the institution of Surveying Engineering and the Laboratory centre of the school in the morning and gave lots of great advice for several Master and PhD candidates about how to write thesis and English journal paper in the afternoon. On Sep.21, a discussion with Master and PhD candidates and research fellows was carried out about the application of laser scanning in tunnel monitoring, several solutions of which were given. On Sep. 22, a lecture entitled “Laser Scanning for Deformation Analysis and Change Detection” was given by Dr. Roderik Lindenbergh in the room 107 of School of Earth Sciences and Engineering. He first to introduce the laser scanning and its developments, the application in deformation monitoring and change analysis is a hot topic in recent years. Combined with several study cases, such as Metro tunnel, Dam, Large-scale bridge and topography, couples of methods and algorithms were introduced in detail. Afterwards, Dr. Roderik Lindenbergh answered questions with patience. Students found enormous benefits from the excellent lecture. On the next days, Dr. Roderik Lindenbergh shared the experiences in submitting English journal articles with PhD students and discussed the international cooperation with Prof. Teng Huang in the room 1102.
